I had the immense privilege of reading this book early. It’s about a haunted house, a broken relationship, mysticism, and genuine scares. It’s also incredibly hot, and the healing but horrifying journey these characters go through made my heart swoon.
I’m incredibly excited to be part of today’s cover drop. You are completely unprepared.
First, here’s the back cover copy
Laced with romance, gothic imagery, Catholic mysticism, diaspora, and horror…
When lonely transgender exorcist, Colin Hart, finds himself challenged by an unruly haunted house in Gideon, Colorado, he’s kept awake by ghosts, demons, ghouls, and the handsome nonbinary homeowner, Bishop Martínez.
Unlike the simple hauntings Colin is accustomed to, Bishop’s house is a living beacon, attracting a plethora of inhuman creatures, including a vengeful wolf-headed spirit who might be the key to quieting their sleepless nights.
But as a heartbreaking mystery unravels, Colin comes face-to-face with the past Bishop tried to bury, opens a closet full of bloody skeletons, and trips into an accidental romance.
As paranormally skilled as Colin might be, this particular haunting may be too messy for him to handle…
The plot and pacing are super tight. Yes, it’s a novella, but Moon deftly pulls the reader along with genuine scares and monsters interspersed with a hedgehog-like tenderness between Colin and Bishop that is part of the expectations for a Moon book. Their relationship starts off perfectly professional, but gradually evolves into something more physically intimate as the monsters haunting Bishop start coming for Colin as well.
There’s also a thread of colonization that weaves through both the magic in the world-building and what led Bishop to their particular circumstance. It’s gothic and the theming is brilliant, especially in the context of Bishop and his ex being ex-military. Grief is messy, recovery perhaps more so, and Moon does not shy at all away from those depictions and acknowledgements.
An utter delight of magic, horror, and romance, paired with an examination of systems and forces beyond either protagonists’ control.
Now that I’ve rambled about the book, take a magnificent gander at the incredible cover by artist M.E. Morgan.

Isn’t this cover simply magnificent?
I’m obsessed with this particular shade of pale blood and the details on Colin, Bishop, the teeth and the house itself. There will be interior decorations and I cannot wait to my hands on those treats.
The novella comes out on February 14, 2023.
